The film-making industry in Ireland is still very young as it only started to emerge in the early 1980s, when an Irish Film Board was created. Ireland became a great location to shoot American productions such as Braveheart (Mel Gibson) or Saving Private Ryan (Steven Spielberg). More recently King Arthur (Antoine Fuqua) was shot in counties Kildare and Wicklow. A number of Irish actors have achieved international fame, stepping into the path led by Peter O'Toole and Richard Harris, such as Colin Farrell, Liam Neeson, Daniel Day-Lewis, Kenneth Brannagh, Gabriel Byrne, not forgetting Pierce Brosnan. Neil Jordan ('The Butcher Boy', 'The Crying Game', 'Michael Collins') and Jim Sheridan ('In the Name of the Father', 'The Boxer') are famous Irish film-makers. |
