It
is in this part of the county that you will find the most scenic parts,
between the Comeragh and Monavullagh Mountains. Moreover this stunning
part of the country is not as frequented by tourists as others. The
70km long East Munster Way runs between Carrick-on-Suir in county
Tipperary and the northern slopes of the Knockmealdown Mountains.

every aspect of the area. The Comeragh Mountain Walking Festival in
October is a good opportunity to take a walk and enjoy traditional
music in a pub.
CAPPOQUIN is a small market town at the foot of the Knockmealdown
Mountains. Traces of the earliest Irish peoples have been found in the
nearby Blackwater Valley. Mt Melleray Cistercian Abbey (call 54404 for
information) Is a stunning building which dates back to 1832.
Also at the foot of the Knockmealdown Mountains lies LISMORE, once the
location of a great monastic university. The two most interesting
building in this lovely town are St Carthage’s Cathedral and Lismore
Castle which overlooks the river. Although it is not possible to visit
the castle (it is only available for functions) you can still visit the
gardens (call 54424 for information).
Getting around Northern Waterford [
Buses run from Dungarvan to the East Munster way on Tuesdays only, from
Clonmel on Fridays only.
Buses run from Dungarvan to Cappoquin daily (except Sundays), from
Waterford twice a week and also from Cork on Fridays. Buses run from
Dungarvan to Lismore daily (except Sundays), from Waterford twice
weekly.
